Fire on Sign Hill
South San Francisco Fire Department received mutual aid from other local fire agencies including CAL Fire to assist in their effort to knock down a grass fire last Thursday July 5th on the southern side of Sign Hill. CAL Fire uses their Air Program which includes UH-1H Super Huey helicopters for water drops as well as transporting firefighters and equipment. The OV-10 Bronco aircraft are used as an Air Tactical Group whose job it is to coordinate all aerial assets on a fire with the Incident Commander on the ground.
All the agencies made a quick job of what could have been a much larger incident. Fires on Sign Hill are pretty much an annual occurrence. Thursday’s fire was said to have been started by juveniles lighting fire works and South San Francisco Police Department are working to bring those responsible accountable.
