Planned Parenthood Issue To Go Before City Council Tomorrow Night

South San Francisco, CA August 27, 2013

Planned Parenthood on Grand Avenue or not? That is the issue before our City Council this Wednesday August 28 at 7pm at the MSB 33 Arroyo Drive.  The public hearing will be televised on community channels Astound 26 and Comcast 27. Live streaming is also available on the city website. This issue has been before our Parking Place Commission and our Planning Commission and both commissions have voted in favor of Planned Parenthood utilizing the 435 Grand Avenue location. Adequate parking is available on the street as well as the local city lots including the parking structure on the 300 block of Grand Avenue. Land use is consistent with the general plan although lone dissenter, Planning Commissioner Carlos Martin identified Mission Road as possibly a better site for Planned Parenthood. Martin is also a candidate for this November election for City Council.  The approval has been appealed by Rosa Gomez, Rolando Delgadillo, Vera Priego, Teresita Valido and Respect Life South San Francisco.

Staff has reviewed in detail each of the 14 items in the appeal

Ross Foti's graphic signs of fetuses remains a controversial topic

Ross Foti’s graphic signs of fetuses remains a controversial topic

Emotions have run high over this issue as anti-abortion advocates have taken up the 400 block of Grand Avenue on Saturdays in protest. Among them the infamous Ross Foti and his oversized posters of dead fetuses has caused even further division among many in, and out of, our city. While many believe protesters on either side of the debate have the right to gather, there is a controversy on both sides of the aisle on the signage that Foti brings. Some pro-lifers say it takes away from the message they are trying to share to others about the evils of Planned Parenthood, others state it brings the truth out in the public. Others in favor of seeing Planned Parenthood move in on Grand Avenue argue the signage is damaging to children especially and that Foti needs to be removed from the area as he has been from other cities.  ‘Protesting the protestor’ has been the call by city council candidate Kate MacKay.  Danielle Brown wrote, “As for graphic pictures, Germans did not believe that Holocaust happened right under their noses, until the very graphic pictures of the victims started being displayed.”  It should be noted that abortions will not be performed at this location.

Word out in our community is that Planning Commissioner and City Council candidate Rick Ochsenhirt was relieved of his duties at his All Souls Parish due to his yes vote on the land use issue when it was before the Planning Commission.  And on June 29th John Penna, the owner of the 435 Grand Avenue property was reported to have ‘hosed down’ Father Joe Richard, a retired priest from All Souls.  “Now we know how to handle “occupiers. ‘Hose ‘em. Cops did that a lot in the South. Hope this goes to a jury. Bet we’d see jury nullification. Buffer zones shouldn’t be limited to clinics. They should be applied to all protesters” was the comment posted by Jim Clifford.

Local merchants have repeatedly complained about protesters disrupting business, others that the walkways are difficult to navigate with protestors blocking their way.  “Everyone should be able to enjoy the freedom of their choice to go to businesses that they choose without interference from picketers. You can protest all you want but you have to respect others and their properties.” shares JoAnn Willis

Views are strong on both sides as shown by the statements by Al Bullentini “We need a Planned Parenthood Clinic like we need a hole in the head” and Gayle Peterson “This is a very densely populated area. The need is great. Let’s do it!”

There is sure to be more heated discussion at this upcoming council meeting tomorrow evening.  City staff have worked hard on this issue and the current report is no less than 500 pages of detailed information addressing each item appealed. The city staff report, signed by City Manager Barry Nagel , finds in agreement with the Parking Place Commission and the Planning Commission decisions as based on law. To access the reports online, please go here. For more information on our previous coverage, please go here.

If you attend the meeting and would like to speak, please arrive early and sign a ‘speaker card’ located in the back of the room, complete it and bring it up to the city clerk in the front left side of the room. Your name will be called when it is your time to speak. Because we are all neighbors, we hope this can be a civil discourse that highlights the best of who we are as South City residents.

Elizabeth, you need help, look in the mirror while name calling and judging other people. You have really set a bad example for yourself as well as your church, you don’t know me, you no nothing of my actions and you are nobody to judge from what I can tell that’s for sure. Tell you what I’ll judge you, you are in total darkness you call people names as well as make false accusations of people, you condemn people without even knowing them. If I told you what I’ve done the last 30 years you would think twice on weather or not I need your prayers. Believe me I don’t need your help or want it from someone like you. I wish you luck with your life and try to be nice to people in the future.

I pray that you will come into the light!

When I see and read about men that are so ‘big on women’s rights’ always makes me
ponder, why is this? Could it be that the men then can have ‘full freedom’ in
immorality with women and if the women conceives….well, just get rid of it by
abortion??????

Elizabeth who are you to judge me? You are just a sheep, you think just because a guy wears a robe and reads from the bible he’s better than you and I, haha. Maybe if the church got it’s act together and let priests get married to whoever they want be it a man or a women as long as the person is over 18, it would solve some of their problems. Talk about men and women’s rights I have a wife and two daughters and it’s my job to protect them from anyone or thing that would infringe on their rights as women. You sound just like any women would who lived in the 1700’s get with it join the real world.

As a former patient of Planned Parenthood and as a resident of this city, I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT support the opening of a clinic in this city.

For those of you who deem yourselves as pro-lifers, I ask you one thing, are you pro-life or are you anti-abortion? When you pass a homeless person on the street, do you stop and give them food or do you stare straight ahead and pretend you don’t see them?

I would think that the Catholics who have posted here would be more concerned with their clergy raping their children instead of shifting focus.

Coming from someone who said “Planned Parenthood will be in your local schools filling your kids’ heads with nonsense about so-called “safe sex”, trashing your values, dishing out condoms and contraceptives behind your back and then taking your child from school without your knowledge to abort your grandchildren when the contraceptives fail as they inevitably will.” That makes perfect sense Janet It’s obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. Lets keep our kids in the closet not get them educated, heck lets not vaccinate them like those nuts in Texas. If anything your (what you call logic)is a detriment to our children. It’s fine to believe in whatever you want but not when it comes to others rights, I believe in a women’s rights and the choice they make and where they want to go for medical check ups and cancer screening.

Phil, when I send my children to school, I want them educating in sciences, art, languages etc. not sex. That is my domain and it is the duty and right of every parent to educate their off-spring in sexual matters. I don’t want Planned Parenthood “educating” my children with their depraved, twisted, dirty values.
I too believe in women’s rights – equal pay, equal opportunities, voting rights etc. I do not believe those rights include the right to murder the child in your womb. In fact, the first feminists were staunchly pro-life; it was only Margaret Sanger (the founder of PP) who tried and succeeded to tie the abortion agenda to the legitimate issues of women’s rights. She also advocated sex wherever, whenever and with whomever, birth control and eugenics. (Sounds delightful doesn’t she!)Those are still Planned Parenthood’s values today. What is the difference between Nazi Germany’s Jewish Holocaust and the holocaust happening today in our own society – aborting our citizens who have an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? I’ll tell you the difference, only 6 million Jews were killed, whereas over 50 million unborn babies have been killed so far – oh, and those that were born alive due to botched abortions were also killed by snipping their spinal cord as they lay crying in the cold, dirty, rat-infested “clinic”. See Kermit Gosnell reports. Ironically he chose to do a life sentence rather than take the death sentence he surely deserved when he was convicted earlier this year of their murders!
My children are not in the “closet”. They know the dangers of fornicating. They also know that teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, illegitimate births and abortion rates are sky-rocketing despite or perhaps because of (for sure) PP’s best efforts. You need to connect the dots. It’s easy. We teach our kids to remain chaste and abstinent until marriage and be faithful after. Not rocket science and is easily doable by all. After all, we can control our urges can’t we? We are not animals.
Finally, PP is not about medical check-ups or cancer screening. That’s smoke and mirrors. It’s all about abortion. You know that, but fail to use the word substituting it instead for “choice”. Choice sounds nicer than murder doesn’t it! It’s a child, not a choice. Please have a rethink about Planned Parenthood. It’s not what you think. It seriously harms women, men and their families and destroys innocent life.

It’s obvious you do not know all PP does, and also obvious you live in some dream world by your statement that PP will take your child from school without you knowing? Thats kidnapping, do you know that? So lets see, they are kidnappers and murderers? I would guess you have no idea how hard it is to get a child out of school these days. Once again showing that you not only keep your kids form the real world but you must have no clue. Then you compare them to the Nazi party? Come on. Another thing, have you ever been to a PP how else would you be so sure of all the “smoke and mirrors” they have going on. If you have not seen it for yourself then you must be just a sheep like most who no nothing about it and take for granted what Morons with 3 foot disgusting signs tell you, which by the way your kids can see on Saturday mornings. Here is some informational reading for you, the real numbers and facts at least you can be informed, before making such outlandish statements

Phil, you do know that parental consent is not needed to give a child an abortion don’t you???? Therefore, girls can be taken and are taken, from school, to Planned Parenthood behind their parents’ backs. But you must make sure you have returned the medical consent form to school so Tylenol can be administered if needed!! Does this not seem a little strange to you!

And yes, you are right, we can say in all honesty that Planned Parenthood are murderers. That is what they do; murder the unborn in what should be the safest place for a baby, the mother’s womb.

The 3 foot signs are proof of the holocaust going on in our midst. It is right that you should find them disgusting. They are very disgusting. They are no different to the pictures of the Jewish holocaust. One thing about the Jewish Holocaust though – at least they didn’t do the exterminating on the high street. Pop on down to Grand Ave, you can get a coffee and a cake and then get your kid killed. How lovely.

I have 4 kids one still in school I cannot go on campus without permission ANYONE on campus without permission will either be asked to leave or the police will be called. If you enter any school grounds in SSF you MUST stop at the office show ID and match the form filled out by the parents giving permission to take the child. You have no idea, even an 18 year old cannot leave school early WITHOUT parent permission did you know that? I bet you didn’t. Do you think the school will allow anyone to come on campus and take your child, are you kidding me, seriously? Our school district would be having lawsuit after lawsuit if they allowed anyone can take your kid without permission from the parent. I cannot believe you as a parent can think that. The statements you make, reinforce the bubble you must be living in.

Okay Phil, you clearly do not know about the Minor’s Rights to Confidential School Release. It is the law that minors from age 12 may leave school WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT for “medical services” – a euphemism for abortion or to get their contraceptives. Don’t be under the illusion that your children are safely in school doing their reading and writing. Any one of your children could have left school without your knowledge for abortion or condoms. Are you okay with that??

You can actually balance out what has happened, all the pedophile acts committed as well as being covered up, with soup kitchens? Have you any idea how much the Church spent in court defending itself on theses charges? Think every time you donate, a portion goes to defend child molesters. Not to mention they hate the LGBT. Oh yeah as a women I would think you be more sensitive to women’s rights as well. You are right this is not the 60’s it’s also not the 1500’s where the church seems to be stuck.

That’s a poor excuse to site other people as a reason for leaving the One True Faith.
You know as well as I do that we are all sinners. That’s why we have the sacraments, especially Reconciliation or Confession. And we have a right to judge one another’s actions and call them out on it, out of love and wanting everyone to get to heaven. We are not able to judge the state of another’s sole. That is for God to do.
I hope that you will come back to the faith one day. I’ll be praying for you.

It may well be true but I actually trust my children, I also know that I have taught them to be responsible. I also would much rather have them use birth control if they were to be having pre marital sex not only to prevent pregnancy but to protect themselves from any type of STD out there. it surprises me that you would know some laws and be totally in the dark when it comes to what PP actually does. here is a little more reading that will open your eyes

Phil – a few facts about birth control: It is a Class 1 carcinogen (cancer causing agent). A woman taking the pill more than doubles her risk of getting the most deadly type of breast cancer – triple negative; increased risk of blood clotting causing a heart attack or a stroke; increased blood pressure which may eventually lead to heart failure; benign liver tumors; weight gain; loss of libido etc etc. As for protection from STD’s by using condoms, forget it. The condom has voids (microscopic holes) which are big enough for HIV to pass through. Be careful what you recommend to your children; you could be giving them a death sentence.

Phil – see the excerpt taken from NARAL PRO CHOICE CALIFORNIA below.

“Minors in California have the right to leave school to obtain medical treatment and/or consultation without their parents consent. This provision allows minors to make decisions about their health while maintaining their privacy.

Minors in California have the right to obtain an abortion without notifying their parents or any other adult. Again, California provides funding through the Family PACT program so if you or a friend needs an abortion, you can get funding for medical treatment without involving a parent or guardian.”

I think it is pretty clear that our children can be taken from school to Planned Parenthood for an abortion, and you my friend can do nothing about it. Obviously a “Councillor” will stop by the office and get “permission” to take the child to Planned Parenthood and will bring them back before the day is out, so mom and dad are oblivious to what has happened. Still think PP is good?! Also, please quit obfuscating – we are not talking about vaccinations. Stick to the point.

Secondly did you read the link I posted about the Perot Foundation donating 1 million dollars to PP, I tend to think they after donating that kind of money have done the research and would not tell storytales like you believe in when it comes to PP. Thirdly I will call our school district on Tuesday and ask if they will let a stranger take a kid from school without parental consent, I will take the chance of sounding ridiculous. And last but not least even after people like you have been spewing lies and claim to know more about the situation, more than our own City Council, even though you seem to support those horrible pictures to be on display on out streets for all to see scaring our kids, the bottom line is Planned Parenthood will be there and right there is proof that you and people like you are wrong and are living in some dream world. You could also call Sacramento, but whatever you do, you really should find out the truth one way or another. Also, what attitude have I had? I’ve just been stating facts. I have no reason to lie. Planned Parenthood is a dishonest, deceitful abuser of women. They have never been honest about what their “mission” is, which is to kill as many babies as possible; that’s how they earn their money. They don’t do breast screenings & I have a hard time believing that they won’t be doing surgical abortions in a 3-story, 7846 sq. ft. building even at a later date despite claiming that they will offer only “emergency” contraceptives (abortifacients), contraceptives & STD testing and treatment. If they can perform chemical abortions after permitting, they can perform surgical abortions without returning to the city for zoning approval. The lawyer is wrong when he says it’s not about the user, but the use of the building. Permits have been denied based on both the use and the user in the past & if it IS based on the use, what could be a more macabre and sinister use than stopping the life of a pre-born baby? This is a dirty business and the user just as dirty! Susan Hart, Menlo Park, CA

Recently in CA, our government passed two shody bills: (1) to allow anyone who desires a special certificate to learn how to “aspirate” a baby from the womb to be able to do it legally, and (2) any clinic that does abortions can open up without meeting the same required building codes nor health code standards that all other “medical” clinics are required to meet. Talk about moving back into the dark alleys and substandard care!

On Jan 1, 2014 Obamacare goes into effect. Planned Parenthood and their affiliates will be opening as many clinics as possible in order to “service” those who will now come under the obamacare giant. These unsuspecting people will think…ah, free healthcare, but what they will be served is population control, substandard care and untrained baffoons. God help us.

Planned Parenthood does not belong anywhere on Grand Avenue which is so heavily populated with eating establishments and with a Catholic church and a school within such close proximity!! It’s obvious they are targeting the youth in the area. Their own reports state that 90% of all pregnant women who walk through their doors end up aborting. That’s their bread and butter. While they say they won’t perform abortions at this site, you can be sure this will change as they’ve clearly left the door wide open to do so.

Laure

If SSF truly cared about women they would have a pregnancy care center open downtown. PP is a business, and their bread and butter is harming women, starting with the birth control pill ( I thought we wanted to be Greener? Hello? Taking hormones that are proven carcinogenic every day ??) and ending with taking a life if it is not convenient.
What a shame that anyone buys into their lies. Come to your senses, please.

The city of SSF and the owner of the building could benefit far greater from any number of businesses other than Planned Parenthood. Why would anyone want a Planned Parenthood there downtown? It is not needed, it brings protestors, it causes people to avoid the area, and if you are a nearby business, this is a definite stigma! It really doesn’t matter if you are pro life or pro abortion (ie: pro killing of unborn children). If you care about the City of South San Francisco you would not want a Planned Parenthood there – especially right across from City Hall and the main Library – like some kind of vulture or demonic omen. Those sad, death-dealing souls who are perpetrating this, are usually post-abortion themselves. Indeed, we pray for their souls.

Thank you for your common sense remarks both business-wise and spiritually. Main street; i.e., Grand Avenue, South San Francisco does not need the stigma of an abortion clinic. Planned Parenthood should find a location in a dark back alley where it belongs. I know first-hand that Planned Parenthood promotes their own agenda on a vulnerable population; the young, uninformed, desperate, and alone. Pro-life protestors know the devastating life-altering outcomes of post-abortion on individuals and society; thus their zeal.

Interesting that ‘no abortions will be performed’ at this location…….

I seem to recall the CEO of Planned Parenthood a few years back, stating in their own
publication, that he wanted all of his ‘clinics’ to be performing surgical abortions!

I have been out to the site, and as far as the prayer warriors disrupting businesses,
that is TOTALLY BOGUS! The people are a great group of respectful people who are you
Aunts, Mothers (if you were so lucky not to have been aborted) and your Grandmothers.

As far as one of the commissioners being asked to step down from duties in the Catholic
Church, that is exactly what should of happened, and should be happening to all
people who are in ministries in the Catholic Church and WHO ARE NOT IN FULL COMMUNION
with the Church’s teachings, period.

And please let it be known, that these ‘demonstrators’ pray for Mr. Penna too.

It is going to the full Senate floor next week for a vote.
