FIRE UPDATE: Eye witnesses say they heard a transformer blow on San Bruno Mtn  off of Hillside at Chestnut/Lucca which caused a fire that spread to a grove of eucalyptus trees which and spread quickly from there.
The fire appears to have started across Hillside/Lucca on the Mtn, and stopped at Hillside School, due to the great work of many hot and tired firefighters and aerial support – and all the first responders that kept the area safe, BIG SHOUT OUT!

As of 8:15PM a few Cal Fire trucks remained up at the staging area at Hillside School. There were still some hot spots smoldering above the school but the fire is now out. No injuries or loss of property have been reported.

From San Mateo Co. “The Fire Department is working well to contain a 40 to 50 acre grass fire with 2 Cal Fire aircraft, 1 helicopter and helitack hand crew. There are some road closures at Hillside at Airport and Chestnut.  There are no evacuations and no injuries. ”

Everything South City reports the roads are now open although the light signal at Hillside and Chestnut was still out at 8:15. Power has been out in many local areas and should have been restored. To check for more info on PGE go to this link
Much thanks to all of you who sent in photos and updates and keeping us all hooked up on our facebook page. That is why ESC works, it is local hook ups by local hooks, organically grown, not corporate owned. Thank you for being a part of this creation & realization – we are a better city for it.  And we work to get info onto our website for those neighbors who are not on facebook.

There are many more photos that have been received and will be posted here tomorrow. As you review the pictures, it is interesting to note the photos from Roger Cain and the focus not only on the fire, but the other agencies working different tactics towards the same goal; public safety. We often don’t tip our hats enough to the medics, police, commanders, public works and others.

Everything South City would also like to extend a  heartfelt word to Loretta and Chuck leaders of SSF Weed Warriors. They have been the champions of this portion of San Bruno Mountain for years. Each week they work to remove invasive plants and restore native fauna to help preserve the habitat on our mountain.  You can learn more about their work through the San Bruno Mountain Watch Conservatory. Loretta and Chuck live in the shadows of both Sign Hill and San Bruno Mountain and work to preserve the diversity of life that flows between both hills.

We weren’t able to re-post all of the photos at this time, yet we will be sharing them on our website so we can archive them and also be available for our friends who are not on FB.

Additional updates will be posted.

Cheryl Ann D Community support neighbors pulling out their garden house to help contain a fire

Cheryl Ann D shares this photo and sentiment, “Community support neighbors pulling out their garden house to help contain a fire”.
Another neighbor, Sharon Kay Gustilo Meyer, says, ” This has to be the best picture from this whole thing. It doesn’t even show the fire… it shows good people who love their community.”
We agree.
