Free Books for Every First Grader in South San Francisco Unified School District!
Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County and Rotary Club of South San Francisco are co-sponsoring “Time to Read” – a fantastic reading collection of three, brand new books that will be given to each and every first grade student in the SSFUSD! Rotarians will deliver the books to 658 children in 10 different schools within the SSFUSD on October 17, 2013. The three books were chosen from multicultural book lists created by Reading is Fundamental.
This small collection, of what may be the beginning of many kids’ home libraries, includes Martina the Beautiful Cockroach (about sharing your life with someone who’s not just like you), Ish (about creativity and finding one’s voice), and The Busy Body Book (a kid’s guide to physical fitness).
Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County spearheaded this program, because each book in the “Time to Read” program demonstrates the Clubs three core visions that, every child will learn to read by third grade, every child will be physically active every day, and every child will have a positive sense of self.
Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County, Rotary International, and Bimbo Bakeries USA have each contributed to bringing the “Time to Read” program to life — which hopes to inspire a love for reading, but also to teach children many valuable skill sets they can use throughout their lives.
Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County is a unique organization consisting of three Club facilities and two school site programs in South San Francisco and Pacifica. Their mission is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential.
