South San Francisco Citizen’s Academy

 

Would you like to know more about City government in South San Francisco? Have you ever wondered about how City decisions are made, or how City funds are allocated? Are you curious about the many services and facilities that the City owns and operates? Learn the answer to these questions and many more by attending the South San Francisco Citizen’s Academy!

 

This dynamic and fun eleven week course offers you a comprehensive, hands- on, overview of your city government. You will tour various city facilities including City Hall, libraries, fire and police facilities, the Water Quality Control plant numerous Economic and Development projects and other places where your City government operates. You will get the opportunity to speak with City Council members to discuss issues that are important to you, and hear from the City’s staff about the many services provided by the City to the community. City staff and elected officials will share our V.I.S.I.O.N of South San Francisco, and you will learn the importance we place on Values, Integrity, Service, Insight, Optimism and New Ideas (V.I.S.I.O.N).

 

Our Spring 2014 Academy sessions will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 pm each Tuesday evening starting on March 25 through June 3. Each session will include dinner. A graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the City Council meeting.

 

Application forms are available online at www.ssf.net , by calling 877-8501 or by e-mailing vision@ssf.net. Applications must be completed in full and received in the City Manager’s Office by Friday, March 7, 2014. You may e-mail, fax, mail or hand-deliver your application. A maximum of 30 participants will be accepted for participation on a first come first serve basis. Your participation will be confirmed by March 14, 2014.

Thank you for your interest in joining South San Francisco’s V.I.S.I.O.N. program, an eleven-week academy that engages participants in a hands-on overview of City government. V.I.S.I.O.N. sessions will take place each Tuesday evening from 6-9 PM from March 25 through June 3, 2014. The objective of this program is to involve and engage members of the South San Francisco community in learning about and understanding the operation of City government, in order to help build a better community together.

 

A total of 30 participants, who must be 18 years of age or older (a limited number of youth will be accepted – call for details) will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
