If you are reading this, chances are you are sitting. The question is, how long at a time do you sit? Do you take regular stand up and stretch breaks? It is so easy to forget as we become engrossed in all that is out here in cyberspace. And while it is good to stretch our brains with new information, we must not neglect stretching out bodies for good health as well. If we aren’t mindful of this one simple fact we risk doing damage to our organs including heart disease, over productive pancreas, and colon cancer according to contributors to this report. In addition we risk muscle degeneration; mushy abs, tight hips, and limp glutes.
That is not the end of it. Do you ever suffer from ‘foggy brain syndrome’? Drinking water and bringing some fresh blood to that gray mass inside our heads is necessary to keep brain functions. And we all know that sore necks, shoulders and back can also be a by-product of too much time sitting, whether on the computer or watching TV. Many offices today include work spaces set at standing height to allow workers to keep in movement while working – not a bad idea.
Something so simple as sitting for too long day after day can rob us of quality of life and even life itself. This report sites ‘People who watched the most TV in an 8.5-yearstudy had a 61 percent greater risk of dying than those who watched less than one hour per day‘
This report by Bonnie Berkowitz (graphics done by Patterson Clark) is a good reminder for us all. Especially your dedicated editor here!
