Phone Scams Targeting Elderly Alert

South San Francisco, CA       January 7, 2013

Heads up – please share this warning we just rec’d from a South City neighbor

An elderly Colma neighbor got a call from Kaiser saying they’re due a refund for overpayment in 2013. The rep asked for her by name. She verified her address, Kaiser number with the Kaiser account rep. Then the Kaiser rep asked for bank account info. The rep. said they don’t issue check, only can make direct deposits. When questioned more, the Kaiser rep hung up. They called back the next day asking for her husband, by name, he hung up on her. The police and Kaiser were notified and it was a scam.
