South San Francisco, CA January 10, 2014

Last night there was the most incredible sunset, reds and oranges, yellows and blues – all lighting up the sky. Libia Cardenas wrote to let us know this amazing show may have been brought to us courtesy of the first major solar flare of the year. This event that happened at 1:30 EST and ‘appears to have hurled a giant cloud of charged particles known as a coronal mass ejection (CME) directly toward Earth’ according to National Geographic.

A few of our neighbors sent us some photos they captured of this beautiful sky from San Francisco to Menlo Park and in South City as well. Enjoy!
