South San Francisco’s favorite music store, BRONSTEIN MUSIC, just celebrated their 68th birthday this past weekend. “Just imagine a store that sold records and record players back in 1946 evolving to today’s business of musical instruments, repair services, music lessons and rentals.” Bronsein’s wrote on their facebook wall. “Thanks for all the support throughout the years.”
Over 140 folks joined ESC’s birthday shout out on our facebook page with some sharing their great memories.
Ellen Minucciani When I was young we used to by records here. And they had a room where you could listen before you purchased. When I had my own child, we went here for musical instruments! We could rent to buy, no interest, no fuss.
Sunny Liner Bought my flute there in the 4th grade.
Mareth Vedder I bought both my daughters their flutes from Bronstein’s on their rent-to buy program, the only way I could have managed that in those times. They still have them! Congratulations on your 68th year in business!
Cinfonie Bayone Happy birthday Bronstein thank you for being there for our children’s.
Stacy Giusti Gonzales Buying my first 45 record… Three Dog Night
Veronica Ronnie Ortega Ordonez Got my clarinet from there, 5th grade band, Martin School. Fast fwd years my oldest took guitar lessons there.
Tina Marie Preston This is where I rented my clarinet when I was just a wee girl thank you!!! Happy Birthday!!!
Ricco Thompson Sr. So many great memories of that place my grandmother used to live upstairs for many years when I was a young lad I used to look across the street at my aunt working at Ed’s diner what memories I have. OMG
A few years back Bronstein’s underwent a major renovation and has expanded it’s services yet continues to offer the same small business feel that keeps neighbors coming back generation after generation. Plus owners Don Edwards and Rich Welker continue to support our public and private music instruction. Did you know both Don and Rich started working at Bronstein’s when they themselves when they were high school students here in South City back in 1968? Don attended SSFHS and Rich ECHS so our high schools are equally represented! Don and Rich bought the business back in 1981 and have continued the superior service in goods and education that is the hallmark of this great local business.
If you haven’t been down there in a while, check out their online virtual tour HERE. For more information go directly to their website HERE. Easy parking is now available in the Miller Avenue parking structure or in the parking lot on Baden near the rear entrance.

Congratulations on 68 years! Bronsteins in South San Francisco is like having See’s candies on Spruce or like sign hill or South city car wash. These are the things that come to mind when I think South San Francisco. Not to mention the greAT people and neighbors of this community. I remember going with my father and buying reeds for his clarinet and saxophone. For me it was taking lessons years back and of course now I buy my drumsticks and music books.
Don and Rich are the reason I shop at Bronsteins.. couple of great guys who I have known now for years..I wish you and Bronsteins another 68 great years in SSF 🙂
