South San Francisco, CA    January 8, 2014SSFPD logo

On Superbowl Sunday 02-05-14, officers were flagged down by a citizen on the 400 block of Linden Avenue in South San Francisco. The citizen reported that a driver had just collided with two parked cars. Officers found (S) Alejandro Morales (a mechanic who resides in Daly City) at the scene of the collision. Morales admitted that he had been smoking marijuana earlier in the day and while driving, he collided with the two unoccupied parked cars. Morales was examined by drug-recognition trained officers at the scene of the collision and he was determined to be under the influence of marijuana.  Officers subsequently placed Morales under arrest for violation of 23152(e) eve (driving under the influence of a drug) and 23152(c) eve (driver addicted to a drug). Morales was booked at the San Mateo County main jail.

Drivers are reminded that although certain people may be legally prescribed medical marijuana or other prescription drugs, it is still illegal to drive while under the influence of any drug (whether legal or illegal). Drugs can significantly alter a driver’s ability to function while behind the wheel. The South San Francisco Police Department has numerous specially-trained DUID (driving under the influence of drugs) officers that patrol the streets. If you drink, use drugs, and drive while under the influence of either, you will likely be arrested, incarcerated, and face significant fines and driver’s license suspensions. The South San Francisco Police Department reminds you that it’s not worth your life or the lives of those in our community -don’t drive while using alcohol or drugs. Original report HERE
