SSFPD Media Release: Fraud & Threat of Ransom

On Tuesday, January 2gth 2014, at approximately 3:34 P.M., an unknown caller contacted a victim (200 Block of Maple) and told her he was holding her family member  for ransom. The unknown  caller was persistent  she send $5000.00 via Western Union, to an unspecified location in Mexico, or he would harm the family member. The caller knew the family member by name and their relation. The victim in this case did not send money; rather, she contacted police. It is unknown at this time how the caller obtained  the personal information  of the victim.
