RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES® OF THE BAY AREA AWARDS $150,000

IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDS TO BAY AREA STUDENTS

Scholarships Total More Than $1.8 Million Over 13 Year Program

San Francisco – May 12, 2014 – The Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Program® today announced the names of the 152 students across the Greater Bay Area chosen as the recipients of its 2014 – 2015 college scholarships. Of the 152 recipients, 56 are past winners and have been granted the scholarship again to aid in continuing their education.

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC®) and each winner’s school will honor the educational achievements of the scholarship awardees during a ceremony at the South San Francisco Conference Center on May 12.

Through the support of local McDonald’s® Bay Area restaurant owners, and other regional business and community organizations, RMHC of the Bay Area has awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarships to more than 1,500 students since the program began in 2002. Scholarship recipients are invited to re-apply for the scholarship every year they are in college.

“Scholarships give students the opportunity to attend institutions that would be out of reach, not because of their academic standing, but because of financial barriers,” said Wai-Ling Eng, McDonald’s restaurant owner and chair of the RMHC Bay Area Scholarship Committee. “Our McDonald’s restaurant owners believe that these bright and dedicated students should have the chance to further their education and not be held back by finances.”

“I am proud to support organizations like the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bay Area who provide students with the resources they need to continue their studies,” said Elisabeth Magaña, Financial Literacy Instructor, Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center. “I’m honored to address the students at this ceremony and wish them all the best as they continue their academic careers.”

RMHC Bay Area awards $1,000 scholarships to students who display academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. The goal of the program is to provide resources to exceptional students who need financial assistance to attend college.

Locally, RMHC of the Bay Area is dedicated to helping children and families around the Bay Area through its core programs, which include two Ronald McDonald Houses and two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles. By providing stability and resources, RMHC of the Bay Area is building a brighter, more promising future for local children and their families.

The RMHC Scholarship Program is an annual program honoring educational achievement. For information about 2015 applications, please visit www.rmhcbayarea.com and www.rmhc.com.
