On 05-29-14 at about 0004 hours, South San Francisco Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of El Camino Real on a report of a hit and run traffic collision where a driver hit a parked car and almost hit a tree. The driver fled the scene of the collision. An alert witness dialed 9-1-1 to report the crime and was able to provide a license plate for the suspect’s vehicle.
Officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect and vehicle. A short time later, officers located the suspect in a nearby shopping center. The suspect was contacted and identified as Kim Rodriguez, a South San Francisco resident. Rodriguez was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Rodriguez was also found to be in possession of illegal drugs.
Rodriguez was placed under arrest for 23152(£) VC (driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs), 20002(a)(l) VC (hit & run), and 1l 350(a) H&S (possession of drugs). Rodriguez was also found to have an outstanding $100,000 warrant for 23152(b) VC (felony drunk driving with priors). Rodriguez was booked on thesewarrant in addition to the on-view charges from this incident. Rodriguez’ bail is currently set at $245 ,000 .
This case is an excellent example of residents working with the police to report drunk drivers. Anyone witnessing a suspected drunk driver is encouraged to dial 9-1-1 and report the incident.
