An estimated 1000 South San Francisco residents and family members enjoyed a fun-filled day in Orange Park on Saturday for the Second Annual Food Fun and Fitness event. A perfect late summer bounty exhibited an awesome array of the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables from the Farmer’s Market. The event also provided a number of activities including Zumba, Martial Arts Demonstrations, Cooking Demos with ingredients from the market, and guest appearances from Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theater mascots – NutraBeast and the SafetyWeevil.
South San Francisco Parks and Recreation staff kept the young folks actively engaged with a variety of activities, including personalized fruit smoothies – whipped to perfection on a bicycle-powered blender. Local police officers manned an obstacle course for bicycle riding youth and the canine patrol dogs had non-stop visitors. South City’s Learning Wheels van was on-site and free books where provided to all those visitors.
The event was made possible through a sponsorship collaboration by The Pacific Coast Farmer’s Market Association, Fresh Approach, SSF Parks and Recreation, SSF Library, and Kaiser Permanente.
