South San Francisco has unveiled a new city website, an upgraded, state-of-the-art digital destination for residents and visitors. The new website, located at https://www.ssf.net, offers online users a first-hand experience into the look and feel of South San Francisco. Designed specifically to enhance user-friendliness and encourage civic participation, the new website provides the latest news on city developments, citywide announcements, online resources and an activity calendar, all available in Spanish, in Chinese, in Italian and in Tagalog.

While the website technology and overall look has markedly improved, users visiting the new website will find that many menu buttons are familiar, including resource links to “Our Community,” “Government,” “Services,” “Business,” and “How Do I..” sections. The City opted to maintain a familiar structure, enabling website users to navigate through the website seamlessly without service interruptions.

“We redesigned and upgraded our website to more easily provide information and to allow for more interaction through the website with residents, merchants and visitors,” said City Manager Mike Futrell, “like South San Francisco as a whole, city government has embraced innovation as a means of improving accessibility and efficiency, efforts which contribute to our broader goal of building a sustainable city.”

As the City’s primary online presence, the new website maintains a wealth of public information, stored in a structured, coherent and easily searchable format. The new website, in conjunction with social media, is the leading source of vital public information about new happenings in the City. Visitors can expect to find the latest scoop about South San Francisco by clicking the City logo, which is on every City webpage, and scrolling down to “Latest News.”

Additionally, the City has implemented a new feature called BrowseAloud, which automatically reads aloud words beneath the mouse pointer. The new technology can also translate and speak up to 29 different languages and make fonts appear larger on the website.
