Learn how to make your own daily artisanal loaves. In this afternoon bread-u-cational workshop, Lisaruth will show you the simple process of baking delicious and long-lasting bread. She will go through the stages of the recipe from her breadmobile—a bicycle trailer built as a bread preparation station—and bake a couple loaves in the library kitchen. You’ll get to taste her “Seeding is Believing” and “Walnut Wheat” loaves (which are full of gluten), and take home a recipe. **Items handy to have in your kitchen: an airtight plastic or glass container for rising, and a non-enamel cast iron dutch oven with lid for baking.
Lisaruth’s Lovin’ From the Oven, a breadmaking instruction endeavor, started with kitchen experimentation using a no-knead bread recipe in San Francisco in 2008. In 2009 Lisaruth started to offer informal and public workshops. Her bread demos have been part of Roots to Fruits: Tasting our Shared Fruiture in July 2011, featured at the Tenderloin National Forest twice as part of the Harvest Moon Buffet Flats: Queering Slow Food in September 2011 and as part of the Luggage Store Gallery’s exhibition Streetopia in June 2012. Bread baking was included in activities at Hayes Valley Farm for Interdependence Day on 12/12/12 and loaves showcased at SF Food Wars’ Yeast Affliction! in January 2010.
Lisaruth desires to live in a world where we all move from being breadWINNERS to breadMAKERS!
This free event will take place Sunday, February 8, at 2:30 p.m. at the South San Francisco Main Public Library in our Auditorium.
