SSFPD Media Release: Suspicious Circumstance on the 500 Block of Fourth Lane

South San Francisco, CA  February 11, 2015    Submitted by SSFPD SSFPD logo color

On 2/10/2015, in the early evening, an unknown suspect knocked on the front door of a residence on the 500 block of Fourth Lane in South San Francisco. The female resident was alone and refused to open the door. The subject identified himself as a PG&E worker and requested to see the resident’s PG&E bill. The resident showed him part of the bill through the window and the subject demanded to see the entire bill. At this point, the resident became suspicious and walked away from the front door. After a few moments the subject walked to the rear of the residence prompting the resident to call the police.   The subject left the area once he realized the police had been contacted.

The suspect was described as a possible Indian/Middle Eastern male, over 6 feet tall, dark complexion, thin build, clean shaven, dark short wavy hair and approximately 20 to 25 years old. He spoke with a clear voice and was last seen wearing a white construction hat, a yellow work vest, a dark colored jacket, and jeans. PG&E was contacted and they advised that the suspect was not associated to their company.

Please report any similar occurrences at the main police line 650-877-8900, anonymous tip line at 650-952-2244 or via email at tips@ssf.net. Please do not allow anybody inside your residence without verifying the company’s and subject’s legitimacy.

Just came home to hear that someone tried to break in to my mom’s house as she was home alone. The person claimed they were from PG&E and asked to come inside. When he was refused entry he asked to see a copy of the bill. My mom was not aware of the scams that are going about so she told him she isn’t opening the door and went back in to her room. 5 minutes later she heard someone trying to enter from the backside of the house and then she called the police.

Just want people to know that this is going on around upper Spruce. (the police were called…)

Unfortunately, he was gone by the time they arrived. Almost as if it was something out of a movie, my mother turned on the news to hear the exact news story about this. Then when she heard the backdoor being forced she did not hesitate and immediately called the police and locked herself in her room.
