The purpose of the youth government shadow day program is to provide young adults the opportunity to role-play the positions of elected officials and key city staff, become more familiar with the operations of local government, and to learn more about their community. The students will shadow their staff and elected official counterparts for the morning and then everyone attends the Youth Government Day luncheon at the Best Western Grosvenor, 380 South Airport Blvd.

The luncheon will have approximately 60 people attending including the high school students, city staff and elected official counterparts, School District School Board Members, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, high school principals and government teachers.

That same evening the students attend the City Council meeting and pair up with their counterparts. They are introduced and observe the proceedings.
