My name is Melinda McMonigle, and I am the Vice President of Students in Action at El Camino High School. Students in Action is a club focused on promoting volunteering and service within and outside of school.

Last week we held Anti-Bullying Week to provide awareness to our peers on the subject of bullying and to inspire them to take action against bullying. We did various random acts of kindness such as handing out lollipops and notes of encouragement to people who appeared sad. In addition, we passed out teal ribbons which people wore to show their stance against bullying.

Also, we had a pledge poster that people signed as well a social media challenge (#challengeapathy) in which people wrote what they appreciate, stand for, and pledge to do. With many signatures on the poster and more than 70 #challengeapathy photos, SIA decided to hold on Open Mic at the end of the week to bring anti-bullying week to a proper close. All the funds went to a charity helping domestic abusive situations. I have enclosed some photos to illustrate the events of the week as well as the video we made about bullying victims in our school.

To further expand the message of anti-bullying week into the community, SIA is reaching out to outside groups to spread word of what we did for the cause and to expand our support throughout the city. Part of SIA’s purpose is to spread positive messages to the community, and what better way than to start with our own local city. It would be amazing to have our story posted on your Facebook page, and SIA and El Camino would be extremely grateful. For reference, our Instagram and Twitter account username is @echssia.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,
Melinda McMonigle
