South San Francisco, CA March 4, 2015 Submitted by SSFUSD John Horgan
A new program that introduces biotech basics to South San Francisco High School juniors and seniors will be introduced this coming fall.
The South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees has agreed to a memorandum of understanding with Biotech Partners, an East Bay enterprise that will guide the innovative effort.
The stated aim is to encourage motivated juniors and seniors from under-privileged backgrounds to pursue biotech studies at the community college level and beyond in order to proceed on to careers in the biotech field.
The District partnership will also provide South San Francisco students with internship opportunities.
Biotech Partners, which has been funded since 1993 by corporations, foundations and other entities, currently operates programs at several East Bay high schools.
The District arrangement, which will involve training for, and close cooperation with, District teachers, will be Biotech Partners’ first in the West Bay.
District trustees voted unanimously to enter into the 2015-16 agreement at their Feb. 26 meeting.
Just curious, why is it only at SSFHS and not at EC as well?
