Physicians donate $5000 to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation
Physicians at Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco recently gathered for their annual luncheon to celebrate National Physicians Day, a day to recognize fellow physicians and the great care and service they provide. But, the KP physicians went a lot further than just honoring their colleagues, once again, as they have for the past five years, they gave back to the community with a donation to a local non-profit that is making a difference.
This year the physicians, under the leadership of Kaiser Permanente Physician-in-Chief, Dr. John Skerry, presented Bonnie Addario, who heads up the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation with a gift of $5,000 in memory of a colleague, Dr. Lorraine Lee, who passed away from lung cancer last year.
“It’s so important that we remember that our care extends beyond the walls of the medical center and into the community; giving back is part of our core values,” said Dr. Skerry. “As physicians, we are proud to give to an organization that focuses in every way to eradicate lung cancer and supporting those fighting the disease.”
Ms. Addario was honored to receive this donation and thanked the physicians for their dedication, compassion and what they do every day in the proactive approach to health care in the community, and emphasized that early detection is key. She also expressed how this was a wonderful legacy in the name of Dr. Lorraine Lee.
The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, established March 1, 2006, is one of the largest philanthropies (patient-founded, patient-focused, and patient-driven) devoted exclusively to eradicating Lung Cancer through research, early detection, education, and treatment.
