South San Francisco residents priced out of housing as population boom continues

South San Francisco, CA    April 4, 2015

Everything South City receives regular inquiries about rental opportunities and there has been an increase in requests for affordable housing for those in our community in South San Francisco.

Today alone we had two families reach out to us and we share this in hopes one of our neighbors might be able to have some solutions. Should anyone have resources please comment here, also words of encouragement are welcomed. Most of us are a pay check or two away from similar situations as this latest population boom in our counties renders housing prices out of the reach of far too many.

1. A young couple in their 20’s with a daughter are seeking Sec 8 housing, 1 or 2 bedroom apartment; “I’ve been in South San Francisco all my life and wouldn’t see myself anywhere else outside the San Mateo County. I’m very embarrassed to ask but I need the help for my wife and our daughter. It is hard to find housing and maybe Everything South City’s outreach might help” our neighbor wrote us.
2. Another South City neighbor with 3 children is seeking studio or in-law apartment in South San Francisco, or close by, as he just received a 30 day notice that they have to move. “If I don’t find anything we will go homeless. I’ve been trying to find somewhere but I have had no luck. If Everything South City can help ask around, please. I am so stressed. Thank you” our neighbor wrote us.

The sad fact is and you ask any real estate agent around, is all the chinese and foreign investors buying up all the property which should be illegal. I say shut down ALL the borders not just Mexico and stop letting new people become american citizens. We have way to many people as it is. No jobs, less places to live, less water you name it.
