Attention all EC Alumni
CALL TO ACTION THURSDAY EVENING at SSFUSD MEETING
Who Remembers Lou Zuardo & Carlos Roman? The E C Athletic Department is in the process of retiring two of our past great coaches jersey #’s. We think it is fitting that both Lou Zuardo & Carlos Roman’s jersey numbers be retired.
The first was #23 Lou Zuardo who managed for 13 seasons from 1969-1982 and won 7 Championships including 2 CCS Championships in 1975 & 1977. The other man was my coach at EC #16 Carlos Roman. Carlos managed 27 years from 1985-2012 and won 8 Championships, and was regarded as one of the most respected Baseball manager’s in San Mateo County.
The numbers don’t lie, but they are not the measure of these two men. Both of these men were teacher’s of the game, and taught fundamentals of Baseball, as well as taught life lessons through the game of baseball.
We are going to make a short 3 min. presentation before the School Board on why we wish to honor these two men who did so much for so many. I would like to invite all the Colts out there who played for Lou or Los. You can speak on behalf of these men, or just show your support by being in attendance. When our period is through please feel free to leave the meeting.
This School Board Meeting will take place this Thursday June 25th at 7:00 at Baden High School in the Cafeteria. The communications period is usually within the first 20 minutes of the meeting. If you would like to share a story or state why you feel these two men should be honored, I will show you how to fill out a speaker’s card, but all I really need is a group of supporters, who want to honor #23 Lou & #16 Los.
If anyone would like to write a paragraph or two and share a story, or describe how either of these two men impacted your life and wish to share it with the School Board here’s what you can do. Send it to [email protected], and I will include it with my presentation to the board, and make copies for Lou & Los when we retire their number’s. Need it by Noon this Thursday.
If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me [email protected].
Thanks Jake–COLT PRIDE
Regan: Lou Zuardo, el Camino high school retirement
I know this comes in late and after the event, however, Dan O’Regan had EVERY intent of going to this game and honoring Lou and Carlos as both friends and Coaches. Unfortunately, Dan who is still recovering from throat cancer this past year came home from work early to go but didn’t feel well enough to drive from Concord (where we now live) to So. San Francisco. I am his wife of 31 years, would have driven him but was babysitting our 2 year old granddaughter and couldn’t get out of it.
Dan feels terrible that he didn’t make it and he knows that it was important for him to be there, but he was really not feeling well. (He’s feeling much better now)
We BOTH wish the best to these two men who have accomplished so much and were such great mentors to all of the young men who played under them up to and including Dan. He has nothing but fond memories of his High School baseball playing days… He will always have them and put a smile on his face.
I just wanted whoever wrote this article to know this….. He is disappointed that he missed such an important event for Lou and Carlos and wishes them the best in Life…..
Sincerely,
Carol O’Regan
