On July 26, 2015 at approximately 6:53 AM, San Francisco Police Department Officers assigned to the Airport Bureau responded to the area of North McDonnell Road and San Bruno Avenue regarding a report of a possible hit and run vehicle collision between a white car, later determined to be stolen, and a city light pole.

One officer arrived at the scene and made contact with a male suspect believed to be involved in the collision. The suspect fled from the officer on foot and entered the passenger side of a red vehicle, which was stopped at red light, west bound on San Bruno Avenue at highway 101. The officer ordered both the suspect and driver of the red vehicle to stop and exit the vehicle. It was later determined that the suspect attempted to carjack this vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle and ran underneath the San Bruno Avenue overpass onto highway 101.

Other officers responded to the area and pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect ran across lanes of traffic, causing vehicles in northbound lanes to come to a stop. As an officer approached him, the suspect then attempted to open the doors of multiple vehicles but was not able gain entry.

This officer ordered the suspect to show his hands. The suspect refused to comply with the orders and instead turned on the officer. The officer discharged two rounds, striking the suspect once in the torso. The suspect was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and is in stable condition. The officer was not injured.

Because this incident occurred in San Mateo County, this will be investigated by the San Mateo County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office at (650) 363-4911.
