The Board of Trustees of the South San Francisco Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shawnterra Moore as the District’s new Superintendent, effective August 1, 2015. Dr. Moore currently serves as the District’s Associate Superintendent of Educational Services and Categorical Programs.
In selecting the Superintendent, the District conducted interviews, focus groups, and an online survey. This public input process identified the characteristics and priorities of the next Superintendent. The Board of Trustees thanks all of the parents, educators, administrators, and other community members who contributed their ideas and opinions to the search process. This input was invaluable to the process and in assisting the Board in selecting Dr. Moore for this position.
The Board conducted a nation-wide Superintendent search and received applications from over 40 candidates and, after an initial screening, the Board interviewed four exceptional candidates. The Board selected the most qualified candidate with the skills that best match the District’s needs. The Board believes that Dr. Moore has District experience, curriculum and educational program skills, leadership and administrative acumen and values that will enhance opportunities and outcomes for all of our students.
The Board and new Superintendent share a commitment to implementing the District’s vision:

● Maintaining a safe environment on all of our campuses that fosters student learning, personal growth, and equal access to a rigorous, standards-based curriculum

● Recognizing the successes of staff and building a cohesive team dedicated to serving the needs of our schools
● Partnering with government agencies, local businesses, and other members of the broader community to find innovative ways to tap into and support the learning of all the District’s students
Dr. Moore is entering her 16th year as an educator, the last five of which she has served as a Director and Associate Superintendent in the District. Prior to coming to the South San Francisco Unified School District, Dr. Moore served in a variety of administrative and teaching assignments, including as a high school principal, assistant principal and English teacher. Dr. Moore comes from a family of educators and she has appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed the various roles she has held.
Dr. Moore’s education is equally diverse. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Santa Clara University, and holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate of Educational Psychology degree, both from the University of the Pacific.
The Board of Trustees will be considering a contract to employ Dr. Moore as Superintendent at their regular board meeting on July 23, 2015. The meeting will start at 7:00pm at Baden School, 825 Southwood Drive, South San Francisco, CA 94080.

It is refreshing to know that diverse groups participated in identifying the needs of the district and chose exceptional candidates to vie for the position of superintendent.
