Mark your calendar, we have a date for my next Job Hunters Boot Camp: Tuesday, October 13th at the San Mateo County Event Center. Whether this will be your first boot camp or you have attended one of them in the past, I promise you will walk away inspired, re-energized in your job search and with likely job leads.

I held the very first Job Hunters Boot Camp in January of 2010, at the height of the recession. Since then we have served some 10,000 job seekers. This will be the 12th boot camp and our economy has changed significantly. Back in January 2010, the unemployment rate in San Mateo County was 9.2%. Today it’s 3.2%. In 2010, we had a hard time finding employers that were hiring. We had a few more than ten employers at the first boot camp. This year we have employers with multiple job openings calling us! We have 100 employers who have signed up.While the Bay Area economy is booming, there are still plenty of people who are looking for work or are looking for jobs with better pay. The economic boom has caused housing prices and rents to skyrocket, so not everybody is thriving.

At boot camp, we will not only connect you with employers who are eager to hire, we will also provide you with skills you need for a successful job search strategy and offer resource tables ranging from health care to community colleges to veterans services. We have a great lineup of workshops that will address issues particularly relevant to the current job market, including networking, interview strategy and branding. We will have a LinkedIn photo booth so that you can update your profile picture. Due to high interest in job opportunities in the health care and hospitality sector, we will also offer two panels with experts from those fields. And as every year, we will have the popular TOOLS tent that offers one-on-one resume reviews and interviewing sessions.
