The City of South San Francisco Thanks City Employees This Labor Day For Making South San Francisco a Better Place to Live

On this Labor Day, The City of South San Francisco thanks all of its City workers who work every day to make this City a better place to live, work and play for residents and visitors.

“Our city employees’ dedication to residents is inspiring,” says City Manager Mike Futrell. “It’s especially important to thank our employees on Labor Day, a time set aside to specifically recognize those whose work have contributed to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our City and country. Their hard work and commitment has made South San Francisco one of the best communities in the Bay Area.”

The City of South San Francisco has 430 full-time and 300 part-time workers, including police officers, firefighters, teachers, 911 dispatchers, building planners, financial analysts, librarians, park maintenance workers, street repair workers, sewer line workers and many, many other specialists who service a well-run City. Many of these jobs require workers every day of the year, 24 hours a day, including Labor Day, such as our police officers, firefighters, 911 operators and Water Quality Control Plant personnel, serving the needs of our residents no matter what time of day or night. “As many enjoy the day off, perhaps with a family barbeque or trip to the beach, remember and thank those who are working today, allowing the rest of us to enjoy a safe and happy Labor Day,” adds Futrell.

Labor Day was made a national holiday by Congress in 1894 and has been celebrated on the first Monday in September since that time. The vital force of labor has built this country, and added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known, bringing us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the Nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation’s strength, freedom, and leadership – the American worker.

I agree, our employees are the smartest sharpest tools in SSF’s tool box.

Many thanks for their dedication. They listen to our concerns and keep up our public areas neat and clean even the brown lawns of drought.

Our city has much to be thankful. I’m happy our city manager honors SSF employees especially all those who have to work this Labor Day-sorry! Hope you get a day off in return.
