Off the Wall: Bits n Pieces From Our Facebook Wall

South San Francisco, CA    October 22, 2015

Below are a few items that were posted on our Facebook wall. Should you have any info to share regarding any of this, please let us know. Thanks neighbors.

Barbara Demattei‎ reports

I need some help finding my lost cane! Went to Garden Club in Sunshine Gardens Shopping Center for dinner Tuesday night (Oct.20) parked in front of Ana’s Beauty shop and when I came out (7:15p or so) propped my cane against the side of my car as I put stuff in the back seat and helped my friend get into the car. Drove off and forgot the cane! Checked with the beauty shop today and they found the cane, but left it outside their shop in case someone came to get it. They said an older man came and took the cane! It is a cute black cane with a black & white zebra striped cover – and my name is on the cane with my phone number. If anybody sees it or finds it – could you please call me?

Michael Jaurigui‎ posted this video of Olivet Memorial Park sprinklers oversray the area early morning or late night.
Hey ESC I found some water wasters. Our neighbors in Colma. There was even a sprinkler pointed at the street. Tisk, Tisk. Olivet Memorial Park CLICK HERE FOR THE VIDEO
Everything South City  responded: Thanks Michael, that’s the thing – when sprinklers come on & no one is around they cannot see the over spray & don’t know to fix it unless someone reports it. We’ll share now.
Belinda responded: Also Cypress Lawn. Every morning they have ALL their sprinklers on for more than 10minutes. I was told nothing can be done since they have their own well. Smh.

Pamela responded: If they have their own well, they’re not using public water.

Solar panels in South City – what’s your thoughts as companies seek out homeowners to lease/buy their products, supported by local municipalities? Thanks to Anita  for her share:
“FYI There is man soliciting solar paneling in the Gardens. He is wearing a a company badge. He mentioned the company logo is also on their trucks.
I didn’t get the name of the company.
Personally I think solar panels make sense and can reduce your utility cost.
I’m planning on moving, so it isn’t for me now. So I don’t know if you would be buying or leasing.”

Mark commented: I bought 6 panels had them installed 5 years ago last year my electric bill was 19 dollars highest was 1st year 40 bucks,i payed a little more for made in USA panels, solar is worth it”

Karen commented: I am always wary of salespeople who come to the door soliciting business. “We’re working on a house down the street and just wanted to share the word. . .” I’ve had people come to my door in the Avalon area as well. I think solar is a great option, but do your homework first. If a company has to go door to door I’d wonder about their business.

Speaking of ‘Mile Houses’ a ‪#‎SSF‬ neighbor just asked about the history of our own 12 Mile House, which sadly is no more, yet has a great history and many of memories for some long time residents. “Ma Bergamaski, Pedro tournaments, Family “Appreciation” BBQ’s, a safe, welcome, friendly neighborhood hang-out.” our neighbor reminds us….. What other memories do you have? Who played on their BB teams?

Gary commented: I played on 12 Mile House Little League team in the early 60’s…team used to go there after games and get Cokes and chips out in back.

HOUSING or lack thereof……

As our ‪#‎SSF‬ City considers workforce housing East of Grand and our ‪#‎SSFUSD‬ consider turning an used school property into staff housing, we see this need extend to other areas including CSM, Sklyline College, and now Stanford University. Population boom is making tight housing even tighter…. creative ways to combat the situation.

What is the solution? Filling in our open space? Building tiny homes in backyards? Govt paid work force housing, or Corp paid work force housing (and put where?)? Moratorium on Building?
