PREMIRE PROGRAMMING 

Author Talk: Lisa McGuinness Caffeinated Ideas Journal

Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. 

Prepare for the holidays with an afternoon of inspiration and coffee! The Caffeinated Ideas Journal features witty text that defines ten types of creative inspiration and includes recipes for delicious specialty coffees and teas, is chock-full of enlightening quotes and has blank pages to jot ideas, thoughts, musings and dreams.

Join us for a lovely afternoon with author Lisa McGuinness. We will be sampling a delicious warm coffee drink recipe, eating some snacks, and spending time with Lisa and the book Caffeinated Ideas Journal. We will come together to talk about journaling, ideas, writing, and inspiration that will get us all through the holiday season.

This free event will take place Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Project Sentinel: Housing Discrimination

Monday, December 7, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. 

Project Sentinel is a non-profit organization and assists individuals with housing problems, such as discrimination, mortgage foreclosure and delinquency, and rental issues including repairs, landlord-tenant concerns, and deposits. They serve the community throughout the Bay Area, including Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, Alameda County, Monterey County, Modesto, and Sacramento.

With rising costs in rent and rent occupancy at an all-time high, it is more important than ever that Bay Area residents understand their housing rights. The focus of this presentation will be on housing discrimination and provide attendees with a broad, basic overview of the protected classes, such as disability, national origin, and familial status.

This free event will take place Monday, December 7, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Fire Safety with the South San Francisco Fire Department

Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:15 a.m. 

Prepare for a fun and safe holiday season by learning about fire safety with the South San Francisco Fire Department. Fire department crew members will be visiting the library to provide safety tips and information. A fire engine will also make an appearance.

 

Please note that all or part of this program is subject to cancellation if any fire emergencies arise.

 

This free event will take place Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:15 a.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Knit and Crochet at the Library

Monday, December 14, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.

Join us at the library for an informal knitting and crocheting circle. Bring your friends to learn about helpful library resources, meet fellow crafters, work on ongoing projects, or learn about the basics of knitting or crocheting.  If you are just getting started with knitting or crocheting, the library will have a limited amount of yarn on hand for this program. Please bring your own knitting needles or crochet hooks.
This free event will take place Monday, December 14, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Lunchtime Knitting at the Library

Friday, December 4 and Friday, December 18, 2015 From 12:00 – 1:00

Come knit with us at the Library! The Lunchtime Knitting program has been expanded to the first and third Fridays of the month. Knitters of all levels are welcome to bring their projects and enjoy chatting with the group. Swap tips, share techniques and enjoy tea and biscuits.

 

Experienced staff will be on hand to help get you started or answer any knitting questions you might have. Please bring a knitting project to work on. For beginners, limited supplies of yarn are on hand but please provide your own needles, size 7 or 8. If you wish to bring your own yarn we recommend worsted weight, lighter colored yarn.

 

This free event will take place on Fridays, December 4 and 18 , 2015 at 12 p.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Library Open House Party Patron Celebration 

Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

Please join us for food, drink and community as we celebrate the season, our library’s patrons, and all of the wonderful community we help and serve. Allow us to wish you a happy holiday season and welcome in the new year. Join us for the festivities, food, music, and good people. Come hear the sound styling of Hope Briggs starting at 3:00 p.m.

 

This free event will take place Saturday, December 19 , 2015 from 2:00 -5:00 p.m. at South San Francisco Main Library.

 

MakerSpace Open House Demos

Throughout the month of December, come see demonstrations of our LibLab MakerSpace equipment — and then book time to try it out yourself! Equipment is available by reservation most weekdays, Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. MakerSpace equipment can be reserved, free of charge, at libcal.ssf.net/booking/makerspace.

  • Learn how to cut beautiful shapes out of paper, vinyl, and other materials with the Silhouette CAMEO, December 4 at 2:00 p.m.
    • See our 3D Printers in action on Friday, December 11 at 4:00 p.m.
    • Learn about the MakerSpace wire bender on Friday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m.

These free events will take place at the South San Francisco Main Library.

 

Tech Time

Join us for a continuation of “Tech Time @ SSFPL,” our librarian-led technology presentations.

Thursday, 12/10– Total Boox eBooks

The library has a free trial of Total Boox, a new e-book platform. We would love patron feedback on the platform. Attend an open forum on Thursday, December 10 at 6:00 p.m. to learn about Total Boox, and provide us with your input.

Thursday, 12/17 – Pronunciator  

The library recently acquired Pronunciator, a language-learning online program featuring over 80 languages to choose from! It is accessible from within the library and from home, using your South San Francisco library card. On Thursday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m. one of our staff members will walk patrons through the features of the program.

Textile Tuesdays

The South San Francisco Public Library is excited to announce our new sewing lab. In connection with our LibLab MakerSpace we are pleased to share this great new resource that includes five Singer 7258 Stylist Award-Winning 100-Stitch Computerized Sewing Machines, a Brother 400 Embroidery Machine, and a Brother 1034D 4 Thread Serger. In our first class, December 1st, we will start to gain an understanding of our machines and what they do, learn some basic functions and instructions, and make eye pillows that you can take home.
