We are of a certain age, my peers and I, and we grew up listening to the greatest decade of music ever…In the 70s, we had classic rock, soul, disco, punk, new wave, you name it…This stuff is in our veins, in our souls, it is part of the fabric that makes us who we are…the artists we dug were ten to fifteen years or more older than we are, and they are disappearing before our very eyes…Many are still out there, though, making music and keeping our decade alive, at least in our hearts and minds…
Cindy and I have made a point of seeing as many of these talented motherfuckers as is humanly possible, and as I watch these guys (and gals), I could swear that I can see in their eyes that they know it too, that an era is coming to a close, that they, and we, should grab it by the throat and hold on for dear life as we rock and roll into our golden years…
It’s not just the music, but the art, the culture, the writings and the essence of our generation, which even today is being embraced more and more by younger folks dissatisfied with their contemporaries, with the Perrys, Adeles, Biebers and Swifts of this world…You may enjoy some of these folks, but they are a facsimile, a shell, empty vessels waiting to be filled by elaborate costumes, exhausting choreography, trite lyrics and career brevity…
You all know how I feel about life, that it is fleeting, that is is precious, that there will be no afterlife, no eternal life, just end of existence, so let’s enjoy the hell out of it while we can…See you at the Fillmore!
