On Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 3:33 pm, South San Francisco Police Officers responded to the 100 block of Romney Avenue on a report of a disturbance involving a possible gunshot. During the investigation, the police department received information that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at a local hospital. The victim was identified as an eighteen-year-old South San Francisco resident and his injury was considered non-life threatening. Officers at the scene of the crime conducted an extensive investigation and were able to locate the shooter and an accomplice. The suspects were taken into custody without incident and identified as seventeen-year-old South San Francisco residents. The firearm used was also recovered near the scene. The investigation also revealed that the suspects and victim had connections to rival gangs which was likely the motive for the shooting. The suspects were booked into San Mateo County Juvenile Hall for a variety of charges to include attempted murder, conspiracy, firearm violations and participation in a street gang.
