South San Francisco, CA April 18, 2016 Submitted by John Horgan, SSFUSD
Martin Elementary School in South San Francisco has been named a Gold Ribbon School by the California state Department of Education. Martin is one of 772 California pubic schools to be so honored in 2016. According to Dr. Shawnterra Moore, Superintendent of the South San Francisco Unified School District, Martin is being feted for its ongoing intense focus on closing the academic achievement gap among pupils of Hispanic/Latino, Filipino and African-American origin. Martin, along with other honorees, will be recognized May 5 during ceremonies at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel. Dr. Moore praised the Martin community and stated that, “We are so very proud of what has been accomplished there. Congratulations to all.” Dr. Rosemary Wood, Martin’s principal, along with her staff and students, was complimented by the District Board of Trustees during its meeting on April 14.
