City of South San Francisco Announces Teen Engagement & Employment Program

The City of South San Francisco seeks engaged high school juniors and seniors to participate in an exciting summer work program. Participants will gain a wealth of work experience, connect with other students with similar interests, and get paid for their time.

THE PROGRAM | Teen Engagement & Employment is a paid summer youth work program designed for high school juniors and seniors to explore their career interest and gain valuable work experience in local government. The program includes engaging components such as a Lunch and Learn speaker series, group project and a council presentation. The program runs from early June to mid-August. Participating youth will commit up to 20 hours per week (minimum of 144 hours, up to 8 weeks.)

QUALIFICATIONS | Participants must be a current student or resident of South San Francisco. Students must at least 15-1/2 years old and provide a work permit if selected to participate in the program. Experience: Must be currently enrolled as High School Junior or Senior student or certified equivalent program (e.g. GED).

SELECTION PROCESS | The process will first consist of a review of application material. A resume may be included, but does not substitute for a completed application. Below are the requirements to be considered for this program:

•A fully completed application (do not put “see resume”), which includes the school/program you are currently enrolled in, grade level, any volunteer experience; and
•Supplemental questionnaire, which includes your preferred area/department of interest. Please note, possession of minimal qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidates will be informed via e-mail regarding program acceptance, details, and participant orientation.

HOW TO APPLY | FINAL FILING DATE IS JUNE 3, 2016 AT 5:00 P.M. OR UPON RECEIPT OF THE FIRST 50 QUALIFIED ONLINE APPLICATIONS, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST.

Part I: Candidates must submit a fully completed application by 5:00 P.M. JUNE 3, 2016. Please read the application thoroughly before submission. Please indicate your areas of interest. Your application may be rejected if this section is incomplete.

Part II: Selected candidates will receive an e-mail notification confirming interview time and date. Candidates will be informed via e-mail of their status in the process no later than the week of June 6 and/or June 13.
