The South San Francisco Historical Society presents its 32nd Annual Historical Society Banquet on Friday, October 21st, 2016 starting at 6:00 PM at the Elks Lodge, 920 Stonegate Drive, South San Francisco. The Master of Ceremonies will be Former State Assemblyman Gene Mullin. The society is honoring Roy Bava for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The annual gala raffle drawing will benefit the Society’s Chestnut Avenue Museum and the Plymire Schwarz Center.
Roy Bava was born in San Francisco in 1925. He is a World War ll veteran where he served in Europe and was awarded two battle stars. After returning home, Roy married Florence Pozzi and they lived in San Francisco for a short time. They then moved to South San Francisco where they made their home and raised their daughter, Denise. Roy worked for Simmons Company for eight een years. After leaving Simmons, he went to work for Grassi American. In 1967, Roy and three partners started Bayside Building Materials in San Mateo. In 1981, Florence passed away. Roy continued working and at the age of 62, he retired. It was at this time that Roy and Rose were married and started their world travels. Roy is a member of many organizations such as the VFW, the American Legion, the ICF, the YMI, the Italian Peninsula Social Club, and the Italian American Athletic Club, but his favorite and first love is the South San Francisco Historical Society, where he is currently the Plymire House steering committee director.

This year ‘s honorees of the Victor John Feudale Award are Basil Cavalieri and Joe Hunziker who are being acknowledged for their outstanding contributions and dedication to the Historical Society and the community. The society is also honoring Roy Bava for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The annual gala raffle drawing will benefit the Society’s Chestnut Avenue Museum and the Plymire Schwarz Center.
