Volunteers should show up at 8:00 a.m. Jan 7 2017

Leianne Graves, chairwoman of the Wreaths Across America subcommittee of the Avenue of Flags Committee in support of Golden Gate National Cemetery, has received notice that the cemetery will be receiving 10,800 wreaths (two full truckloads) for distribution on the cemetery’s grave sites at 1300 Sneath Lane (Veterans Way) in San Bruno.

Individuals and various groups donated about 2,700 wreaths and Walmart generously donated the balance of the first truck and then pledged another full truck load of 5,400 wreaths.
Volunteers are needed to remove the wreaths for discard at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7.

Recology San Bruno will provide containers for the disposal.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED AT 8 A.M. THIS SATURDAY, JAN. 7, AT GOLDEN GATE NATIONAL CEMETERY IN SAN BRUNO. PLEASE HELP PASS THE WORD. THANK YOU.

The Avenue of Flags Committee in support of Golden Gate National Cemetery needs volunteers to help remove 11,025 wreaths from the grave sites starting with Section G along Nimitz Drive in the cemetery located at 1300 Sneath Lane (Veterans Way) near I-280 in San Bruno..

The wreaths — donated by the Walmart Foundation, individuals, corporations, and groups as part of the Wreaths Across America program held at the cemetery this year on Dec. 17 — will be discarded in containers provided by Recology San Bruno.

Wreaths Across America is an annual tribute held every December at our national and state cemeteries across the U.S. “to remember our fallen U.S. veterans; honor those who serve, and to teach your children the value of freedom” (per the Wreaths Across America website).

Be sure to wear layers in case of inclement weather and comfortable shoes. You do not have to register to help, just show up!
