On Sunday morning January 1, 2017 at approximately 0700 hours, South San Francisco Fire Department and Police Department personnel responded to the 900 block of El Camino Real to investigate a possible fire in the area. A structure fire was located to the rear of the business in the shopping center and resulted in a two alarm fire response, before being eventually contained. Witnesses reported seeing a lone male walk from the rear of the burning structure and pointed him out to police. Further investigation revealed the male was a transient and had set two spot fires to the rear of the business, one of which ignited the building. The male suspect, John Anthony Morgan, was arrested for 452 (C) P.C. -Unlawfully Causing a Fire to a Structure and booked at the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City.
