South San Francisco, CA February 2, 2017 Submitted by SSFPD
On 02/01/2017 at about 7:30 PM, South San Francisco Police officers responded on reports of several vehicle burglaries that just occurred in various hotel and business parking lots on Airport Boulevard and South Airport Boulevard in South San Francisco. In one of the burglaries, a witness saw the suspects flee in a red minivan southbound on South Airport Boulevard. Officers began checking the area and located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a warehouse store on South Airport Blvd. When an officer attempted contact with the suspects, the driver fled on foot from the vehicle. The officer pursued one suspect on foot, however, the driver ran to a nearby rental car agency and stole a Mercedes-Benz by force from a car rental employee (who was not injured).
A second officer who had just arrived at the scene, saw the carjacked Mercedes fleeing on South Airport Boulevard. As the suspect fled, he collided with two vehicles stopped at a red light and then fled the scene of the traffic collision. No one was injured in the collision. The officer the initiated a vehicle pursuit and the suspect fled north onto US 101. The suspect’s vehicle became disabled and he abandoned it on the freeway near Oyster Point Boulevard. The suspect fled on foot again and responding officers from SSFPD and several nearby agencies established a perimeter. After a search of the area and another foot pursuit, the suspect was found hiding in railway car. The suspect was then apprehended by a SSFPD officer and his canine partner (no injuries were sustained).
At the warehouse store, another suspect was located in the parking lot and apprehended and taken into custody. A third suspect, unknown at this time, fled the area eastbound through the parking lot and was not apprehended. The two suspects who were arrested were booked into the San Mateo County main jail for numerous charges to include: multiple felony vehicle burglaries, felony carjacking, felony reckless vehicle pursuit, felony conspiracy, possession of a burglary tool, hit and run, and resisting/obstructing officers in the course of their duties. Property from at least eight auto burglaries was located inside the suspect’s vehicle.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have been a victim of an unreported vehicle burglary around the time of this incident is asked to contact the South San Francisco Police Department at 650-877-8900, the anonymous tip line at 650-952-2244 or via e-mail at [email protected].
