South City Schools Whet Appetite for Continued World Education; Alyssa Sullins Heads to South Africa!

Alyssa Sullins is excited for the opportunity to study in South Africa this summer

Having received an phenomenal education from Sunshine Gardens Elementary School, Parkway Heights Middle School and El Camino High School, Alyssa Sullins has been excited to step into the world to put her knowledge to good use in the business world.

Alyssa recently made the decision to add to her educational career and has enrolled at College of San Mateo and has been accepted into the Study Abroad South Africa program for the Summer of 2017. This exciting adventure will allow her to learn international communications first hand while having the opportunity to analyze and reflect on the socioeconomic, political, historical factors that contribute to South African cultural identity.

She will also travel to historical cities and landmarks in Johannesburg and Cape Town, including a visit to the Apartheid Museum, Nelson Mandela House, and tour the Robben Island prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his life. This opportunity  will also allow her to learn about South African history and culture from South African professors, students and community members and, engage in meaningful dialogue with community members who grew up during the apartheid system. Alyssa is looking forward to the firsthand stories about their struggles for equality, as well as having opportunities to interact with and do service projects with South African youth.
