South San Francisco, CA July 17, 2012 Submitted by SSFPD
On Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:55pm, a San Francisco resident was driving westbound on the 200 block of Arroyo Drive approaching Buri Buri Park. Simultaneously, a South San Francisco resident was crossing the street, within the marked crosswalk, with her niece and two small children. The driver of the vehicle was distracted and did not see the family crossing the street. The driver and his vehicle collided with two of the children (ages 3 and 5). The driver of the vehicle, 61-year-old David Szeto, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The two small children were taken to a local trauma hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact the South San Francisco Police Department at 650-877-8900. Refer to case number 17-4229, Officer Hart.
Motorists are reminded to continually be alert and attentive to the roadway, especially in residential neighborhoods where parks and schools are busy with activity during the summer months.
Let’s reinstall the pedestrian crossing flashing lights that could be activated before crossing…
