Dear San Francisco Wine School Friends,

It has been truly devastating to watch the fires unfold in the North Bay this week.  Our hearts are with so many of our students, friends, colleagues, clients and partners who have lost crops, homes, businesses, jobs and lives in this tragedy.  We will be so grateful when the destruction ends and recovery for everyone can begin.

During times of crisis, we all lend whatever skills and resources we have to help our community.  At San Francisco Wine School – we teach.  Our most important mission has always been to provide education and career development opportunities for wine and hospitality professionals who make wine such a wonderful experience for all of us.  We created the 501c3 qualified Glancy Wine Education Fund, so that others could join us in our mission by supporting education for industry professionals in need.  Besides providing ongoing scholarships for low income professionals, this fund is able to designate named scholarships for groups with special needs .  When the Michelin Starred Manresa burned in 2015, we were able to provide education for some of their out of work employees at no cost, so they could prepare for their sommelier exams while the restaurant was being rebuilt.  It was very gratifying and motivating for everyone involved during a time of tragedy and the restaurant was able to return stronger than before and continues to thrive today.

It is with that same sentiment, that the Glancy Wine Education Fund is creating special North Bay Fire Recovery Scholarships to benefit unemployed wine and hospitality professionals looking to improve their knowledge and skills while their community rebuilds. They will be accepting applications for 2018 certification programs through November 17th and we are encouraging all professionals in need to apply here as soon as they are able.

We are also asking the public to join us in this effort to help our industry colleagues pursue new goals and find the inspiration to persevere during the difficult phase of reconstruction by donating to the Glancy Wine Education Fund for North Bay Fire Recovery Scholarships or attending San Francisco Wine School’s Luxury Wine Weekend Saturday, October 21st where all proceeds will benefit this important fund.

We are wishing safety and strength for all of us as we work through this tragedy together.
Warm regards,

David
