SSFUSD Teacher Feliciana Stevenson Named Educator of the Year

South San Francisco, CA    January 22, 2018

by Ms.Sevana Panosian, Department Chair, English Department, El Camino High School

I won the award in 2009 which gives me the chance to nominate future educators.  This year I felt inclined to nominate our tenacious dance teacher Ms. Feliciana Stevenson who has shown her dedication to our youth through promoting the art of dance.  She provides the most amazing dance program for our students while also motivating generations – the dances she teaches are always about subjects related to our society, things like poverty, women’s rights, breast cancer, racism, and social injustice are always represented in her dance show.  I am honored because she and I are one of a handful of women of color (I am Armenian, she is African American) who have been dedicated to the children of South San Francisco, and the impression she leaves on generations of students is profound.

Feliciana is the winner for Region 4 and will compete for state teacher of the year in Sacramento this February.  This is a huge honor not only for Feliciana but for South San Francisco Unified School District.
