At 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday, February 1, South San Francisco Police officers went to the property at Serra Vista School (257 Longford Drive) on the report of an explosion that was heard. Upon arrival, officers located a suspicious device in the parking lot area. Safety precautions were taken and the campus was advised to “shelter in place.” There were approximately 90 students on campus at the time of the investigation.
The San Mateo County Bomb Squad was notified and they responded to aid in the investigation. It was determined the device was a homemade firework launcher and not an explosive. The device was collected by Bomb Squad personnel and the entire area was searched. No other contraband or devices or were located. The area was deemed secure and emergency personnel cleared the area at approximately 1:30 p.m. The “shelter in place” is also clear.
