HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Applications are being accepted for the position of Library Clerk (Homework Club Lead Assistant)- Casual/Hourly Position with the City of South San Francisco’s Library Department.

SALARY RANGE:                             $14.62 to $17.77 an hour

WORK HOURS:                                8:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Mon – Fri (summers only)

2:30 PM – 6:15 PM, Mon- Fri (school year)

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads activities that focus on reading, writing and math skill development with the use of computers, educational games and creative group projects.
  • Fosters confidence, self-esteem and the love of learning in children.
  • Assists in the computer lab with Internet use, word processing, and computer software.
  • Supervises volunteers.
  • Leads craft activities and games.
  • Facilitates learning and works together with other assistants as part of a team.
  • Must learn and implement the goals and philosophy of the Community Learning Center.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • One year minimum experience working in an education-related setting
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent
  • Applicants being considered for employment must be able to furnish proof of legal right to work in the U.S.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; can be a team leader and accept guidance from supervising staff; is highly organized; can integrate computers as a learning tool; possesses knowledge of strategies for motivating children in a creative learning process; and has experience integrating and supervising volunteers.

SALARY RANGE:                             $12.00 to $14.59 an hour

WORK HOURS:                                8:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Mon – Fri (summers only)

2:30 PM – 6:15 PM, Mon- Fri (school year)

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist 3rd to 5th graders in the completion of homework;
  • Work as part of a team to support goals of the HWC and the Community Learning Center;
  • Assist with classroom management;
  • Develop and implement fun, interactive games and educational activities;
  • Co-lead classroom activities in the areas of math, reading, writing, and art;
  • Support educational activities during Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programming;
  • Use open communication and active listening with children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • At least one year experience working with children
  • Must be 16 years or older (A work permit is required through age 17. Applications can be obtained from public high school Counseling Offices).
  • Applicants being considered for employment must be able to furnish proof of legal right to work in the U.S.

The ideal candidate is punctual; possesses good communication and interpersonal skills; can work as part of a team; and is successful at understanding and carrying out verbal and written directions.
