Join the Green Business Community!

The California Green Business Network leads the state and nation in working with small to medium sized businesses to create a vibrant green economy. Led by a coalition of cities and counties, we contribute by helping to make our communities healthier and more livable while also conserving resources and saving money. MORE INFORMATION CLICK HERE!

Our services and recognition are completely free.  We assess practices and help make improvements around energy, water, waste, pollution prevention, and related environmental categories.  Once a determination has been made that a business meets our checklist, they are certified as a Green Business and recognized by San Mateo County and the State of California.

The advantages of becoming a recognized San Francisco Green Business are as follows:

  • A reputation as a business that cares for its customers, employees, and the environment

  • A healthier workspace

  • Free audits for energy, water, and waste

  • Access to our $500/business rebate program for green practices/upgrades

  • A “green starter kit consisting of sample paper and cleaning products.

  • Exclusive use of the California Green Business logo to promote your business and access to the Green Business Promotional toolkit with artwork, logos, copy, etc. to incorporate into your own marketing and branding.

  • Listing on the California Green Business directory (check out our list of 3700 businesses here) and the Shop Green App.

  • A framed certificate of recognition signed by San Mateo County Board of Supervisors

  • Boosted social media posts of your company’s commitment on San Mateo County’s social media pages

  • And your business will save money!

We are excited about all of the recent momentum and the additional resources that San Mateo County is allocating to assist businesses and promote the Green Business logo.  Later this fall, we will be implementing a multi-channel marketing campaign including SamTrans bus-side ads, NPR underwriting spots, and a variety of digital and print advertising.

To get started on the process, or to learn more, check out the California Green Business website by clicking here.  If you’d like to participate, the first step is to register your business on the site and get access to the checklist.  Then our coordinator, Lawrence Nussbaum,  will contact you to schedule an on-site visit to clarify any additional steps that would need to be taken to become certified and what resources may be available to help with this effort.
