Electric Car Discounts Up to $7,000 Start October 1st

South San Francisco, CA    September 24, 2019 Submitted by Kirsten Andrews-Schwind, Senior Manager, Communications and Outreach

Peninsula Clean Energy is again offering a popular electric vehicle (EV) discount program that saves thousands of dollars for San Mateo County residents through a partnership with seven participating local auto dealers. The program combines guaranteed savings from dealerships with Peninsula Clean Energy incentives of $1,000 for all-electric cars or $700 for plug-in hybrids. The time-limited discounts are available from October 1 through December 31, 2019.

The discounts from participating dealerships plus the Peninsula Clean Energy incentives result in significant reductions from the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the purchase of the following 2019 models:

Buyers may stack these savings with manufacturer discounts and state and federal EV tax incentives, potentially saving an additional $10,800 or more per purchase. The program also offers significant savings on leases. See www.peninsulacleanenergy.com/ev for details.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers this incredible opportunity to buy or lease a new electric vehicle and save thousands of dollars,” said Jan Pepper, CEO of Peninsula Clean Energy. “Each EV also saves its owner an average of $1,200 a year on fuel and maintenance costs compared to a gas-powered car.”

“This program has tremendous benefits,” said State Assemblymember Kevin Mullin, a San Mateo County resident and program participant in 2018. “The generous rebates and the ability to reduce my dependence on fossil fuels made it an easy decision for me.”

The program is part of Peninsula Clean Energy’s comprehensive approach to electrifying transportation in San Mateo County. The effort also includes providing $4,000 incentives to low-income residents for purchasing used EVsfunding the installation of thousands of additional local EV chargers over the next four years, and supporting schools and municipalities in electrifying their fleets.

Fossil-fueled transportation is by far the largest single source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in San Mateo County, emitting 61 percent of the GHGs Countywide.
