PG&E Gas Meter Inspections Start Monday, September 9, 2019

South San Francisco, CA   September 6, 2019   Press Release

As part of PG&E’s ongoing efforts to provide safe and reliable gas service to customers, contractors are conducting routine gas-meter inspections in South San Francisco starting next week, Monday, September 9, 2019.

Contract workers will inspect approximately 4,425 residential and commercial gas meters citywide.
The contractors are with Underground Construction Co. and will carry a cell phone and/or electronic tablet in order to take pictures. They will be wearing a PG&E hard hat and PG&E safety vest, but their shirts will have the UCC contractor logo. (as shown on the right)
They will not be in PG&E vehicles, but will have a PG&E placard on the door and/or inside the front windshield. Workers will carry photo identification and fact sheets, which they will present upon request.
The PG&E contractors will not enter homes during these inspections. Anyone feeling uncomfortable, PG&E asks that you call PG&E’s customer service line at 1-800-743-5000 to verify PG&E’s presence in their neighborhood.

Automated calls will go out to customers who have a phone number listed on their PG&E online accounts. This work will not affect gas service. In the event a gas meter cannot be readily accessed, PG&E will schedule a visit with the property owner and inspect the meter on a future date.

These inspections are happening countywide and will conclude by the end of September, barring unforeseen delays, such as inclement weather.

Hi, Can’t get a person at (800) 743-5000 to inquire about legitimacy of email received today from PGE to inspect my gas meter. How to access customer representative in order to ask? It seems that PGE has started inspections of gas meters in San Francisco already. Approximate length of time for inspection is appreciated too.
