Hillsdale Caltrain Station to Temporarily Close in Spring 2020

South San Francisco, CA  October 24, 2019 Caltrain Press Release

Hillsdale Caltrain Station to Temporarily Close in Spring 2020

Due to delays in the relocation of third party fiber optic cables, the Hillsdale Caltrain Station closure will no longer be closed in late December 2019 and is estimated to close in spring of 2020 as part of the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project. The delay will not affect the length of the closure, and the new and improved station is expected to reopen in fall of 2020.

Other transit options are available for riders that use the Hillsdale Station. The SamTrans ECR comes down El Camino Real approximately every 15 minutes, and Belmont/Hillsdale shuttle service will be available during commute hours. Caltrain will also provide alternative route maps for riders that wish to connect to other stations as the closure date draws closer.

The new Hillsdale Station will be located at East 28th Avenue and will feature a more convenient center-boarding platform, additional improved shelters and more amenities than the old station.

Upon completion of the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project in spring of 2021, pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers will enjoy a safer, and more accessible, east-west connection in San Mateo. This vision for the Peninsula city dates back to 1999 and includes proposed traffic calming measures on both 28th and 31st Avenues.

In 2017, construction started on the 25th Grade Separation Project, a collaboration with the City of San Mateo to make improvements to safety, traffic flow and to reduce train noise.

A virtual town hall and in-person community meeting will be held prior to the temporary closure, and updates will be provided as it approaches. Riders are encouraged to stay informed by signing up for updates at www.caltrain.com/HillsdaleTempClosure.
