SSF City Council Address School Drop Out Violations: SSFPD to ticket, fines to be doubled

South San Francisco, CA   October 8, 2019 Submitted by SSF

PREFACE: On September 7th we published information (CLICK HERE) regarding the improper use of white zones and double parking at our local schools, sparked by Willam Shon’s public comments on our social media, regarding the on-going inconsiderate, and illegal, use of the drop off zones. SSFPD have published this update today:

To the residents of South San Francisco and members of our school communities,

In response to increased citizen complaints regarding motorists creating hazardous conditions due to double-parking, the City Council of South San Francisco recently approved a resolution to increase double-parking fines. The fines are increasing from $43 to $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense, and $250 for the third and subsequent offenses. In addition, the South San Francisco Police Department continues to utilize an enforcement program called “Mail-A-Cite” which allows officers to mail a parking citation to the registered owner of a vehicle observed in violation of a parking regulation, regardless if the vehicle is occupied at the time of the violation. This program allows officers to issue multiple citations during a short period of time if numerous vehicles are observed violating double-parking regulations at the same location.

As the safety of our children and residents is paramount, we ask that you comply with all parking regulations, especially around our City’s school campuses at student drop-off and pick-up times. To avoid receiving an unexpected citation in person or in the mail, you are asked to make sure you are parked legally, and in compliance with the law, at all times.
