It’s still winter but officials are busy booking an impressive and varied concert lineup for the San Mateo County Fair in mid-June.
“We are delighted to announce that the iconic and Grammy-nominated Whispers have been signed for this year’s fair,” said Dana Stoehr, chief executive officer of the San Mateo County Event Center and Fair. “In addition to the Whispers, we are bringing back Petty & The Heartshakers, a Tom Petty tribute band. They rocked the house last year.”
The 2020 San Mateo County Fair runs June 13 through June 21. The Whispers concert is June 18 and Petty & The Heartshakers performs on June 16. All main stage concert general admission seating is free with fair admission, on an open seating, space-available basis. For reserved seating, the fair’s Gold Circle admission includes fair admission plus reserved prime seating in Fiesta Hall (main stage). Gold Circle tickets are just $40 in advance and are on sale now at sanmateocountyfair.com.
While Gold Circle reserved concert seats are on sale now, March Madness tickets ($5 discount admission) and discount carnival admission go on sale on March 16.
Whispers: The Grammy-nominated Whispers have earned a solid and memorable position, celebrating over 50 years in the industry. They are one of the longest-lived R&B vocal groups and they did it with nearly all the same members. They are known for their smooth soulful ballads and remain one of the premier R&B groups. Their musical success can be attributed to a careful balance of R&B, disco, jazz and pop. Musical accomplishments include double platinum albums, 33 top10 hits and over 20 Billboard charted albums over a span of five decades.
Petty & The Heartshakers: Tom Petty was an iconic guitarist and his rock band was pivotal in the music scene in the 1970s and 1980s. Petty & The Heartshakers, with Dan Grennes on lead vocals and guitar, recreates the Heartbreakers’ memorable music through an outstanding tribute that will make you want to sing and dance. Grennes seeks to keep Petty’s music alive and respectfully channels Petty in his own personal way.
