TARGET:
frequently asked questions
our guest experience
What steps is Target taking to keep guests safe and healthy as they shop in the stores?
We’ve always taken pride in our clean and well-run stores, and we know this is more important than ever right now. Like many others, we’re taking guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which recommends regular cleaning as one of the most important preventive measures we can take. Health and safety is our first priority, and we’ve put a number of additional steps in place to protect them as they shop, including adding payroll hours to support more rigorous cleaning routines, including ensuring guest-facing surfaces like checklanes and touchscreens are cleaned at least every 30 minutes. We’ve also ceased food sampling in our stores out of an abundance of caution.
Will Target have the items I need?
We know that many guests are stocking up on key essentials, and we’re working hard to accommodate this increased demand. To ensure as many guests as possible can find the items they need, we’ve taken measures such as:
- Coordinating stores, distribution centers and suppliers so that the things our guests need most – cleaning supplies, food, over-the-counter medicine and baby products – are fast-tracked through the supply chain and prioritized for re-stocking.
- Placing limits on products like hand sanitizer, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, bottled water and more. We’ll continue to make adjustments to limits as needed, and respectfully ask all guests to consider their immediate needs and purchase accordingly so more families can find the products they need.
- Working to fulfill online orders and staffing up services like Order Pickup and Drive Up. However, due to high demand, we are facing delays. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- Reducing hours and closing all stores by 9 p.m. daily to help us as we replenish and deeply clean our stores for our guests.
What are other fulfillment options available for guests?
Target offers a range of fulfillment services that don’t require guests to enter the store, including:
- Drive Up – a team member delivers your purchase to your car in our parking lot.
- Shipt – a shopper makes a same-day delivery to your doorstep.
- Target.com – orders are shipped directly to you.
Why are you making changes to your store hours?
Beginning March 18, all stores will close at 9 p.m. local time to allow even more time for teams to clean and restock store shelves
Also beginning March 18, Target will reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests – including elderly and those with underlying health concerns. We are encouraging other guests to plan their shopping trips around this timeframe.
When and where can senior guests participate?
Beginning Wednesday, March 18, Target will reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests – including elderly and those with underlying health concerns.
What special precautions are you taking to ensure the stores are safe for these vulnerable guests?
We’ve implemented a number of steps to protect our guests and our team, such as adding payroll hours to support more rigorous cleaning routines. This includes ensuring guest-facing surfaces like checklanes and touchscreens are cleaned at least every 30 minutes.
Will item limits be enforced during this shopping event?
Target will maintain limits on select products and would ask guests to purchase only what they need so there’s enough supply to accommodate this increased demand.
Will you enforce an age minimum for this shopping event? If yes, how?
Target is making the first hour we are open on Wednesdays available to the most vulnerable guests, including the elderly, at this time. We are asking other guests to plan their shopping trips around this timeframe.
our team
Are you encouraging your team members to stay home if they’re sick?
Yes. As always, the health and safety of our team remains a top priority. We’re asking team members to stay home if they are sick and providing resources to make that possible.
Will Target offer paid sick leave to team members if they contract the coronavirus (COVID-19) or are placed under quarantine?
As always, Target is committed to taking good care of our team members and their families, and we’re extending new benefits to help them during this time including:
- Quarantine pay—in the case of team members being placed under mandatory quarantine, we’ll provide them with 14 days of pay.
- Confirmed illness pay—if team members contract COVID-19, we’ll provide 100% of their pay for up to 14 days.
- We’ve also waived our absenteeism policy to support team members who may be unable to work because of school or daycare closures, or who stay home due to flu-like symptoms.
- We’ve expanded our back-up care benefit to all Target team members.
We’ll also continue to offer them our existing well-being benefits, including:
- Virtual medical visits, which are free and can help determine when it makes sense to see a doctor.
- Paid family leave for eligible team members.
- Our Team Member Giving Fund is available to support team members and their families if faced with unavoidable financial hardship.
- Team Member LifeResources is available 24/7 to all team members, dependents and any member of the household to help with a variety of issues.
Will Target offer additional family care support for team members?
Yes, all U.S. team members—that’s all U.S. exempt and non-exempt team members, including those at stores, distribution centers and HQ locations—are now eligible for access to free back-up care from our partner, Bright Horizons. During this limited time, the team member co-pay is being waived, and team members will have access to a full 25 days of care per team member, per dependent. It includes center-based and in-home care for children or adult and elder family members that live with you. This benefit is intended to be used when usual child or family care arrangements become temporarily unavailable.
What is Target’s work from home guidance for team members?
While our HQ buildings will remain open for those who need to come in, starting this week, anyone who is in a job that can be done remotely, is encouraged to work from home. We plan for this to continue until the end of April, and we will evaluate constantly and adjust if needed. This will decrease potential exposure to the virus and support social-distancing recommendations, while also allowing us to operate the business effectively for our guests.
coronavirus (COVID-19) testing in select retail locations
In partnership with Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Google and others, Target is working with the federal government to provide public access to additional coronavirus testing. We’re currently working with officials and task force partners to identify real estate that can serve as temporary testing locations, and will share more details as they are available. Up-to-date information about how Target is supporting our guests and team will be posted here.
At which store locations will you offer testing, how will it work and who is eligible?
We’re currently working with officials and task force partners to identify select Target real estate that can serve as temporary testing locations, and on the specific testing details. We’ll share up-to-date information as soon as it’s available.
How many testing kits will be available, and when?
We’re continuing to finalize details, including specific timing and the duration that temporary testing locations will be made available, and will share up-to-date information soon.
additional questions
Who is leading Target’s response to coronavirus?
An internal task force is ensuring our company’s planning, preparedness and response actions are coordinated and aligned. In addition to our contacts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of State, we have a variety of medical experts to provide us direct counsel and advice. This group is working swiftly and diligently to support our team and our guests.
